Annual commemorative service, wreath-laying and talk to mark the life of Samuel Plimsoll.

After a short service, there will be a talk by Rose George, journalist and author. Her book ‘Deep sea and foreign going: inside shipping, the invisible industry that brings you 90% of everything’ was awarded the Mountbatten Literary Award by the British Maritime Foundation. Joining the crew of a container ship for the five week trip from Felixstowe to Singapore, Rose charts the murky waters of international shipping, with its powerful naval fleets, pirate gangs, and illegal floating factories, and investigates the poor regulations that may leave crews with little protection, while companies are allowed to deny their responsibilities.
Refreshments after the talk. Admission free, retiring collection.
