The Shorncliffe Trust is hosting a very special Remembrance event at the Shorncliffe Military Cemetery, Folkestone on the evening of Saturday, 9th September 2017. The ‘Light in the Darkest Hour, The Unremembered; supports a significant project being delivered by the Big Idea’s Community Interest Company project in conjunction with Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) to honour the bravery and sacrifice of the Labour Corps throughout World War One.
The Shorncliffe Trust will lead a community event at Shorncliffe Military Cemetery where a number from Labour Corps now lie at rest far from their homes in China and South Africa; and who joined the hundreds of troops who never made it home to countries across the globe including Canada and Australia and Belgium.
On the evening, the Shorncliffe Trust will light 550 Lanterns on the graves of those who supported the War Effort through Labour Corps and also remember the military personnel at Shorncliffe Military Cemetery to shine a light on those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
The Shorncliffe Trust also welcome dedications to loved ones for each of the lanterns through sponsorship. Lanterns will be placed by each headstone or memorial, so that all will have the light shine upon them to show the world, we have not forgotten them and the Trust’s efforts to create a Heritage and Education Centre at Shorncliffe in their memory, will never cease.
